I had a friend tell me that vacations take a little
time to become vacations: The first two
days you’re decompressing from the job, the next day the realization sets in
that you’re really on vacation, then two
days before your vacation is over you start fretting about the work building up
while you’re gone.
Yes, I know I’m retired…. But Road Trips are
similar. After the planning, packing and
preparation. When out on the road the
first day I have to get into the
groove. The maps, the play lists, the
snacks…. The second day it’s like I’ve
never stopped traveling.
A lot of the vibe of the trip is the route you’re on
and of course your destination. This
trip we took I-94 into Illinois to I-80.
Talk about a vibe! MA drove
through the heaviest traffic yesterday.
I took over once we got on to I-80.
We ended up in Iowa City. Today
was all I-80 into Nebraska. Corn fields
as far as the eye can see.
As for
entertainment, we listen to our Ipod that has 14 gigs of music on it on random
selection. No news, No Donald Trump
crap, just good music.
The first thing that I found interesting was that,
without the darkness of the political campaign, our world was not falling
apart!
My fellow travelers were polite on the road, and
very nice when met at rest stops.
Black, White, Hispanic, Asian….. people of all walks respecting each other,
helping each other …. being true Americans. The road was packed with recreation vehicles! Of course there were tons of semi’s but even more RV’s, campers, and lots of cars of fellow travelers clearly
Road Tripping!
The second was the state of our economy. From Michigan to Illinois, to Iowa to
Nebraska the roads are being worked on and were a pleasure to drive (except on
some Michigan roads…. Just sayin’) .
Another observation was the Help Wanted signs everywhere! The economy is clearly booming! Now that may change in Colorado, Utah and the
next areas we’re headed …. And if it does I will comment on it…. But from my
limited sampling …. Things are good.
Now… to get to Utah for the fun stuff and pictures….
